Description
A key ring CPR mask, also known as a CPR keychain, is a portable device that includes a CPR face shield or pocket mask stored in a small case attached to a keyring. This design makes it easily accessible for anyone trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to carry and use in case of an emergency, such as a heart attack, drowning, or other situations requiring rescue breaths.
Key features and benefits
- Portability: Designed to be carried on a keyring, in a pocket, or a small bag for easy access.
- Protection: Creates a barrier between the rescuer and the victim to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases during mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. This reduces the hesitation to provide assistance due to fear of direct contact with bodily fluids.
- One-way valve: Many models include a one-way valve in the breathing barrier to prevent the backflow of the victim’s breath and fluids to the rescuer.
- Training aid: Some versions feature printed graphics on the face shield to guide proper hand placement and head-tilt techniques during CPR, making them useful for both training and emergency use.
- Hygiene: Some models may also include nitrile gloves for enhanced hygiene and protection during resuscitation.
How to use a key ring CPR mask
- Remove: Quickly remove the face shield or pocket mask from its packaging or keychain container.
- Position: If using a face shield, unfold it and place it over the victim’s mouth and nose. For a pocket mask, ensure it’s positioned to create a proper seal over the victim’s face.
- Open Airway: Tilt the victim’s head back and lift the chin to open the airway.
- Seal and Breathe: Pinch the victim’s nose closed, create a seal with your mouth around the mouthpiece of the mask or shield, and deliver rescue breaths according to standard CPR guidelines.
- Continue: Alternate rescue breaths with chest compressions as per CPR protocols until emergency medical help arrives.
- Disposal: Dispose of single-use shields or masks properly.
