An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a medical professional who provides emergency care and transportation to patients in need. EMTs are part of the emergency medical services (EMS) response system and are under medical supervision. They are trained to respond to 911 calls and other life-threatening situations, such as car accidents, natural disasters, and in-home accidents. 

EMTs perform a variety of duties, including: 

• Assessing injuries and illnesses; EMTs assess a person’s condition and document what happened to them 
• Providing emergency medical care; EMTs can provide basic first aid, deliver oxygen, administer CPR, and provide epinephrine injections or Narcan for overdoses. They can also splint or bandage fractured bones and stabilize patients who are going to the hospital. 
• Determining treatment; EMTs can determine the treatment a patient needs and help them take any prescribed medications. 
• Transporting patients; EMTs can safely transport patients to medical facilities, whether for non-emergencies or life-threatening emergencies.
